First Impressions

Being a substitute means that every time I enter the classroom, someone is forming a new impression of me.  Here's a couple student reactions from this week:

I was checking in/out books in an elementary library.  A first grader came up and I checked out her book for her.  As I handed the book back, she shyly gripped it to herself and gave me a bashful, "Thank you . . . Mrs. Nice Teacher--I didn't know your name, so I called you Mrs. Nice Teacher."

Part of first impressions includes students judging my wardrobe and physical appearance.  I don't know if I can claim to be the inspiration for an 8th grade boy that started singing the words "she's so fly" but another junior higher was definitely addressing me when she asked, "Are you a JC Penny model?"  (Other students insert commentary here.)  "You look like you could be."  I wasn't quite sure if I should be offended by that.
